# FAQ

> Answers to common questions about Melonly Departments, from pricing and slots to joining, permissions, Discord and CAD.

## Plans & Billing

  <Accordion title="Is there a free tier or trial?">
    No. Departments is a paid product.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Are slots per account or per server?">
    Per server. A plan gives its slots to the one server you activate it on, and each active department uses one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I bought a plan but can't create a department. Why?">
    Activate the subscription on your parent server first, from **Manage subscriptions** on your dashboard. See [Activate a Subscription](/Department/plans#activate-a-subscription).

  <Accordion title="Do I need Melonly Plus for my departments?">
    No. [Melonly Plus](https://melonly.xyz/plus) features like a custom join code are included in every department.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I cancel or update my card?">
    Use the billing portal at [melon.ly/billing](https://melon.ly/billing).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens if my payment fails?">
    The subscription is paused and departments over your slot limit are deactivated. See [Paused and Failed Payments](/Department/plans#paused-and-failed-payments).

## Creating & Converting

  <Accordion title="Who can create a department?">
    The owner or an Administrator of the parent server.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I change a department's parent server?">
    No. It's set when the department is created, and departments can't be moved or transferred.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I turn my existing server into a department?">
    Yes, from **Convert To a Department** in that server's settings. See [Converting a Server](/Department/converting).

  <Accordion title="What happens to subscriptions on a server I convert?">
    They're detached, and you can activate them on another server from **Manage subscriptions**.

## Members & Access

  <Accordion title="How do members join?">
    Share your join link or code. By default this sends a request that you accept on the roster. See [Joining a Department](/Department/joining).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Someone can't join because of Discord roles. Why?">
    Your join code has Required Discord Roles set. Give them the role or change the setting in [Join Code](/Department/settings/general#join-code).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is there a limit on members or ranks?">
    No. Every department needs at least one rank.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I'm a parent server admin but not on the roster. Can I get in?">
    Yes. Open the department and you're added to its lowest rank automatically.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why can't I see some tabs?">
    Activity, Leave of Absence, Infractions and Settings need matching rank permissions. See [Who Can Access What](/Department/Introduction#who-can-access-what).

  <Accordion title="Why can't I edit or promote a member?">
    You can only act on members ranked below you.
  </Accordion>

## Discord & CAD

  <Accordion title="It says my Discord server is already linked. What do I do?">
    A Discord server can only be linked once. Run `/unlink` in that Discord server, then try again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I sync roles, kicks or bans across department Discords?">
    Set it up in **Departments → Settings** on the parent server. See [Managing from the Main Server](/Dashboard/department#settings).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why don't I see the Open CAD button?">
    CAD must be enabled on the parent server and your rank needs access to the department's CAD panel. It's also hidden on small screens.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why was our CAD turned off?">
    The server ran out of department slots, for example after a failed payment. Enable it again once the subscription is active.
  </Accordion>

## Deactivation & Deletion

  <Accordion title="Why does my department say it's not active?">
    The subscription wasn't renewed or an administrator deactivated it. A parent server admin can reactivate it from **Departments → Overview** once there's a free slot.

  <Accordion title="Is data lost when a department is deactivated?">
    No. Everything is kept until it's reactivated.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens when I delete a department or its parent server?">
    All its data is deleted for good. Deleting the parent server deletes every department under it too.
  </Accordion>
